Trial by Combat

YAY!!!! It is finally done!!! This took forever! I was almost ready to leave it as a line art.

Ok well now that I am done, let me explain exactly WHAT I drew.

This is my version of the second trial by combat with the two island giant retainers of Tennyson (Gerald or Keelen i dont know which is which...) that Horace had to fight. Horace is on the right FYI. 

Now about the shields. Horace's is described as a buckler, which were widely used up to the 17th century and which histroicaly were only maxium 18inches across. Now the outsiders shield was described as what we would think of as a "traditional" shield. The only thing is that all shields had symbols on them so the you could recognize friend from foe in a battle. Well I never could find the description of the Outsiders symbol... so I created my own. My apologies to the author

The characters (sans the symbol on the shield) belong to John Flanagan and his series Ranger's Apprentice. The art and symbol are mine.

(oh and yes i did use a reference photo --> thumbs.dreamstime.com/x/mediev… I fell for the unique perspective of the photo and the difficult angle )
